WHO CAN CLIMB? Everyone over the age of 6 is welcome to climb at Ambleside Climbing Wall, however only people aged 14+ who can prove climbing competence can climb unsupervised without an instructor. All children under the age of 18 must have an adult present unless previously agreed by us.
CAN I WATCH? Unfortunately we are limited on space at our wall, so spectators may need to relocate during busy periods. Upstairs is the lovely Cafe Altitude, which provides fantastic views of both climbers and the surrounding fells. Please note one adult must remain with the children they are supervising at all times. Dogs are welcome in both the wall and cafe, but please be considerate in busy periods.
HOW DO I BOOK? It is recommended that you book in advance for any supervised climbing visit, either via the website or by getting in touch. You can view our events calendar for our availability. Unsupervised climbing can still take place during lessons and clubs on a first come, first served basis, but please be aware you will be sharing the space.
IS THERE PARKING? Lake Road public carpark is located directly next to us with plenty more parking options around Ambleside.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Comfortable clothing Closed-toed footwear - heels, muddy boots or open toe shoes are not permitted. Climbing shoes are available for hire or are included in your lesson cost. Any own gear is welcome if it is in a safe to use condition. Please note: we do not provide ropes for unsupervised lead climbing.
IM AN INSTRUCTOR, CAN I BRING A GROUP? We welcome all outside instructors to come and use our facilities. Groups of three or more novices must be supervised by a qualified instructor holding a relevant qualification who has registered with the wall. If coming to the wall as an instructor it is highly recommended to call ahead and ask for an external instructor guidance and registration form.
