CAN MY KIDS CLIMB? Absolutely! Everyone aged 6+ is welcome in our bouldering room. 3-6 year olds may also use the room during quiet periods – please call ahead to confirm a time. Under 14s are not allowed to belay unless approved by a wall manager. All belayers must pass a belay competency check. All Under 18s must be supervised by an adult at all times at a 1:2 ratio.
ARE THERE AUTO-BELAYS? Unfortunately, we do not have auto-belays at our wall. Solo climbers are welcome to use our bouldering room or come along to one of our climbing social nights!
IS THERE A CAFE? The lovely Café Altitude overlooks our wall (and has a great view of the surrounding fells). This is a separate business with different opening hours. You are welcome to bring outside food & drinks into the wall, just please keep them off the mats. www.facebook.com/CafeAltitudeAmbleside/
CAN I BRING MY DOG? Well behaved dogs are very welcome at the wall, humans are asked to please be considerate during busy periods.
HOW DO I BOOK? Unsupervised bouldering and climbing do not need to be booked in advance and climbers are welcome to share the space during Kid’s Club timeslots. Tasters, lessons, courses and events can be booked online or by giving us a call on 01539 439 803.
WHERE DO I PARK? Lake Road Pay & Display Public Carpark is located directly next-door to us with more Pay & Display Carparks and 1-hour free parking options around Ambleside.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? We recommend comfortable sports clothing (no jeans, skirts or dresses). We have climbing shoes available for hire (or included in your lesson), or you are welcome to wear non-muddy trainers/flat closed-toed shoes.
DO I NEED MY OWN GEAR? We hire out harnesses, belay devices, climbing shoes and chalk – but any gear of your own is welcome provided it is in safe to use condition. Please note: we do not provide ropes for unsupervised lead climbing.
IM AN INSTRUCTOR, CAN I BRING A GROUP? We welcome all outside instructors to come and use our facilities. Groups of three or more novices must be supervised by a qualified instructor holding a relevant qualification who has registered with the wall. If coming to the wall as an instructor it is highly recommended to call ahead and ask for an external instructor guidance and registration form.
